Research on Genetic Resources and Plant New Variety DUS Testing Techniques Management and Application of the Economical and Special Crops in Taiwan

Strengthening DUS Testing Techniques and Promotion and Arrangement in Accordance with Plant Variety Rights:

The project is to establish the test guidelines and execute DUS tests and modified the test guideline and table of characteristics of nephrolepidaceae. The initial characteristics’ table has been established and included 31 items. TSIPS collected 60 commercial varieties of phalaenopsis and doritaenopsis for establishing variety database. TSIPS have accepted 18 cases of phalaenopsis , 1 cases of dendrobium, 6 cases of rose, 5 cases of bougainvillea and 2 cases of crown of thorns to execute DUS tests for protecting the breeder’s rights. This year 36 phalaenopsis and 2 oncidium cases have been granted PBR.

The exploitation and utilization of the germplasm genetic resources of woody economical crops - Rosy Trumpet Tree

Two graft methods Cut Grafting and Cleft Grafting were compared in this study. The results revealed Cleft Grafting has better graft survival rate. Furthermore, longer scion/rootstock in length had higher plant survival rate.

Fig.1 Effect of scion length on the grafting of Rosy Trumpet Tree. The results revealed 9 cm scion length has highest 60% survival rate.
