The collected 5 of the original species of Fagaceae plants in 2025. Species are Quercus dentata Thunb、Quercus pachyloma O. Seem、Lithocarpus kawakamii (Hayata)Hayata、Lithocarpus formosanus (Skan) Hayata、Castanopsis indica (Roxb. ex Lindl.) A. DC。Plants’growth habits and traits were investigated after being growing well.Three growing media were tested for Quercus dentata to investigate growing condition of several stages of seedlings. The performance of Quercus dentata seedlings was better when growing in the media composed of mushroom waste (sawdust) than in soil、 peat moss or peat poss-perlite-vermiculite(1:1:1) mix. Further investigation will continue to screen for an optimum container seedling producing model for landscaping.
Taiwan has rich diversity in native aromatic and medicinal plants. By using existing agricultural technologies, preserving germplasm resources, cultivating native plants, and developing plant seeds and seedlings, we can support ecological conservation. In this project (2025), we established and preserved 142 seed-propagated germplasm accessions of aromatic and medicinal plants. We also developed seed treatment techniques for Mahonia oiwakensis (Alishan mahonia) and established growth models and cultivation calendars for Indian borage (Plectranthus amboinicus) and Rhododendron oldhamii.
The other purpose of this project is to establish and revise the test guidelines and execute DUS tests and modified the test guideline and table of characteristics of saintpaulia and tuberose and the saintpaulia and tuberose initial characteristics’ table has been established and included 41 and 29 items. We have accepted 27 cases of phalaenopsis, 1 cases of oncidium, 7 cases of rose and 1 cases of rhynchostylis to execute DUS tests for protecting the breeder’s rights this year. There are 40 cases of phalaenopsis. 3 cases of oncidium, 1 case of dahlia and 2 cases of caladium have been granted PBR. We also have finished a plant variety DUS testing technique training seminar on September in 2025.
