Research on Genetic Resources and Plant New Variety DUS Testing Techniques Management and Application of the Economical and Special Crops in Taiwan

To develop management techniques for Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability (shorts for DUS) test, draft characteristic tables and DUS testing methods for tuberose and oncidium have been completed. The initial drafts of the characteristic survey forms include 35 and 104 items, respectively, with continuous observation being conducted on a total of 40 varieties across both crops.

For DUS testing of phalaenopsis, ongoing designs for the 108 characteristics include the arrangement of petals and the optimization of shapes of apex on leaf, alongside the preliminary establishment of an automated auxiliary measurement procedure. In 2026, DUS testing final reports were completed and reviewed for 59 cases of phalaenopsis, 3 cases of oncidium, and 1 case of osmanthus.

Through plant variety protection system, the plant breeders rights and the effectiveness of plant variety protection are safeguarded, while simultaneously enhancing overall agricultural output value.
