Germplasm Development and Application of Cattleya Alliance and Agapanthus.
This project collected appropriate germplasm and did intergeneric hybridization to create new mini-type Cattleya varieties, which have a short juvenile period with colorful and fragrant flower. This year completed the collection of a total of 14 Cattleya varieties and 47 intergenic hybridizations this year. Some seeds of mature pods have been planted, 95 intergenic hybrids of seedlings have grown ,60 varieties grew out of flask and progeny of 22 hybrids already flowering. Two outstanding individual plants won awards this year.
Seeds and callus of Agapanthus africanus have shown surviving individuals after cobalt-60 irradiation. It is hoped that individual plants with flower color variations will emerge in the future.
