The Promotion of Healthy Germplasm Conservation and Propagation Systems for Taro and Ginger

  1. A total of 3060 virus-free taro seedlings from 7 clones were transplanted into the field for plant growth observation and evaluation.
  2. A comparison of yield among different ginger species and clones revealed no significant differences among the three species. In terms of the number of branches, bamboo ginger had the highest, followed by all clones of galangal, and small yellow ginger had the lowest. For rhizome width, galangal clones were the widest, followed by small yellow ginger, and bamboo ginger was the narrowest. The number of branches and rhizome width can be used as indicator traits for distinguishing among different ginger species.
