The Promotion of Conservation systems and the assessment of applications for indigenous heirloom foxtail millet(Setaria italia)

  1. Among the30 millet seeds, 8 had a germination rate of less than 80%, the ratio is 26.66%, and germination rate of less than10%, the ratio is 10%.
  2. Assisted the Mataian Tribal Village to establish a 0.4 hectares millet seed orchard , conduct seed conservation demonstration among tribal farmers and optimize tribal millet seed genetic resources.
  3. Organized one Seminar on Native Crop Seed Conservation, promoting seed conservation technology education and training courses for millet farmers.
  4. In 2025, a total of 19 millet germplasm accessions were collected from Indigenous communities in Taitung and Hualien for preliminary evaluation. The results of the spring season trial showed that two accessions (M114-10 and M114-6) achieved a single-plant yield exceeding 50 g. The higher yield was mainly attributed to the presence of 1.4-2.7 tillers, multiple panicles per plant, and longer panicle length. These accessions are identified as key candidates for advanced evaluation in the next phase.
