The breeding goals for 2024 for amaryllis, calla lily, and caladium have been completed, including 300 amaryllis hybrid combinations, 40 calla lily cross combinations, and 108 caladium hybrid combinations. A total of 448 combinations were created, and the sowing and embryo culture work was completed. The amaryllis segment of this project held a 2024 amaryllis new strain observation meeting in Pingzhen District, Taoyuan City on April 3. Among the 100 new amaryllis strains screened, several were selected, winning the overall championship and 20 first-place awards in different categories. The selection was assisted by global industry companies to serve as a reference for the promotion of amaryllis varieties. For the calla lily, heat-resistant progeny bulbs were planted, and hybridization and embryo culture were conducted. In caladium, two potential strains have applied for variety rights and were evaluated based on leaf shape, color, and the timing of leaf yellowing and withering. Three promising progenies—CHB940136-04, CHB111006-02, and CHB940256-48—were identified.
