The purpose of this project is to breed new papaya varieties for international market potential. We proceed the effort on selecting new papaya varieties with high yield, large fruit, long shelf-life, papaya ringspot virus disease tolerance and dark flesh color. We continue to self-cross and select the S6, which are segregated from the hybrid lines, with the characteristic of large fruit and papaya ringspot virus disease tolerance. To establish the clone lines, selecting the superior individual plants from S1 lines for vegetative propagation. Furthermore, we will do variety trait testing with 1-2 excellent hybrid varieties which bred in the previous year. At present, of large-fruited lines and disease-resistant lines have been completed of self-pollination.
