Developing young home gardening customer source and establishing the foundation of food and agriculture education.

Due to geographical and climatic factors, Most of farmers produce paddy rice in Yilan, and large-scale vegetable producer is rare there. Therefore, the vegetable nursery is generally a small-scale family running type, and fewer people are willing to invest in higher cost plug seedlings.

Wenzheng Chen, one of the 3rd “Hundred Young Farmers” award owners, coached by Taiwan Seed Improvement and Propagation Station (TPIPS), Council of Agriculture (COA). When he was a teacher, he used his summer vacation to go to TPIPS for agricultural courses and realized that the seedling industry in hometown was far behind the other counties in Taiwan, so he made a big decision to return home and taking the responsibility of taking care of elder parents and the seedling nursery business. With the help from COA, TPIPS and hard work, Wenzheng Chen improves his skills in seedlings production and upgrades the nursery facilities. After solving the production problems, how to develop new customers has become a new topic.

As the government is promoting food and agriculture education, Wenzheng Chen goes back into to the campus. Different from past,he shares the knowledge and experience of agriculture this time. The students will learn how to plant vegetables and flowers to experience home gardening through practical contact with agriculture and becomes a potential customer in the future.
