The TSIPS cooperates with the National Plant Genetic Resources Center of the TARI to conduct the next-generation germplasm renewal plan, which is expected to renew 390 species, to achieve the preservation of genetic resources with activation and utilization. The TSIPS said that the germplasm propagation renewal plan will be conducted this year with 10 varieties of cruciferous vegetables, bitter gourd, pumpkin, watermelon, cucumber, eggplant, tomato, etc., The materials are investigated and evaluated for a variety of characteristics, which can continue the diversity and activation of germplasm to provide breeding.

Brassicaceae is a family with the most varieties of vegetables. It is like a cool environment. The main cultivation and production areas in my country are Yunlin, Chiayi, Changhua, Nantou, Taoyuan, and other area. The production season is autumn and winter. Seed collection requires a low-temperature environment to promote flowering and bear seed, but the Cucurbitaceae and Solanaceae vegetables flowering has a relatively low demand for low temperatures. The TSIPS said that the cruciferous vegetable seeds collected this year include cabbage, pakchoi, Chinese kale, mustard, radish, rape, broccoli, and other types. The seed collection site is located at 500-600 meters of altitude in the Xinshe area, and the winter temperature is lower than that of land. A longer low-temperature period can promote the transformation of flower buds and bolting with flowering and bear seed.

The TSIPS said that because cruciferous vegetables are cross-pollination crops, the hybridization rate is 40-100%, with species between the need for isolation, so as not to cause hybrid, and attribute inbreeding to decreased fertility and seed yield, will be to the artificial and flower bud pollination. Some like cabbage don't bloom and need a certain low temperature to promote flowering. However, in recent years, climate warming often led to high temperatures, and the low-temperature period is shortened or unstable in autumn and winter. Therefore, the TSIPS will adjust the cultivation period or use a low-temperature growth box and chemical treatment to promote flowering to seed collection. We coordinate with the maintenance of germplasm food safety around the world, conduct germplasm propagation renewal, and do our best for the genetic preservation of biodiversity!

The TSIPS also indicated that cruciferous vegetables are rich in nutrition substances, which have anti-cancer, anti-oxidation, and anti-aging. It is also an indispensable edible vegetable species and is an important economic vegetable. In response to the global warming phenomenon, the selection of weather-resistant accessions breeding stress-resistant varieties, and the vitality accessions of materials can be used as breeding.
